Apollo – Alien

Brief description

Apollo – Alien examines the threshold between everyday life and cosmic projection. A figure stands between a “window” and spatial depth; the pictorial surface itself becomes a threshold. Inspired by an oven window, the window shifts from a domestic function into a passage where perception slips into another order. Contrasts of colour and form hold this duality in tension: a dark centre and a luminous body, absorption and energy.

Materiality and process

Acrylic painting and plaster relief turn the canvas into an interface between flatness and volume. The plaster constructs the background as a physical layering: it is modelled, sanded and partly painted over, allowing relief and colour field to interlock. In the upper third of the picture, a deliberate gap or fissure remains between the plaster body and the canvas. It breaks the illusion of a closed pictorial space and exposes the seam of its construction.
