A digital image from 2017, reworked as a moving simulation in 2026.

Brief description
“Surfin” translates my originally static photomontage into a moving digital simulation. A figure surfs through a dark, almost cosmic ocean. The wave is not made of water, but of meadow and plant matter: nature becomes surf. The figure’s head appears as a blossom, while the body contains floral elements and connects human movement with botanical mythology.
In the new version, light, glitter, plant motifs and wave movement are activated as animated layers. Particles detach from the pictorial surface, condense into currents and give the original montage a stronger spatial and temporal presence. The visible transitions between water, wave edge, figure, blossom and plant structure remain intact. They are not smoothed out, but emphasised as a collision of different pictorial worlds.
The simulation continues the original idea of the image as something capable of travelling: when the body cannot travel, the work moves. The portable photomontage becomes a digital scene that can circulate across different screens, exhibitions and virtual spaces. Surfing becomes a metaphor for circulation, resistance and departure—from work to place, from gaze to gaze.
